Jeanne Buck started this business many years back with Frankie Hannah here in Steamboat Springs. It consisted of just a few clients and concentrated only on lawn maintenance. Jeanne and Frankie chose the name Kinnikinnick, not because it was difficult to pronounce, but because they surmissed that no one would ever forget that name, which in the years to come, has proven true.
The Kinnikinnick Plant (arctostaphylos uva-ursi) is a ground cover known as "bear berry" found in woods and sand from sea to mountain tops. It has a small pink blossom and red berries. Our Company likes to plant Kinnikinnick at our newly installed landscaping jobs as a signature of the work we have done there.
As the years progressed, Jeanne's partner, Frankie, left to pursue other ventures and her husband, Ray Buck joined her in their vision of a rooted, family owned lawn business. Ray brought with him his instinctual hard working philosophy which has carried this business a long way. Win Park came on soon thereafter. Win used to own his own landscaping company for approximately 9 years in Burlington, VT, until he decided to go on vacation for a couple of weeks in Steamboat Springs. That vacation has lasted a little longer than expected.
With the addition and help of Ray and Win the company has grown from just a few clients in the early 1990's to over 200 clients today. It is still that strongly rooted, family business that Jeanne and Ray invisioned so many years ago, it just consists of two families now. Although not on the books officially as an owner, I have just as much committment and ownership to this business as my husband, Win, and the Bucks.
Jeanne, Ray and Win work with a philosophy of excellent service and communication. They want the client to be happy before anything else. Whether it is lawn maintenance and keeping your properties looking good or new landscaping installations "we are committed to doing what is right for your property".
